“Talk of the Town” on “23 Years long journey of National Sanitation Week:100% achievement in basic sanitation and sluggishness in complete Sanitation” (राष्ट्रिय सरसफाइ सप्ताहको २३ वर्षे यात्रा:आधारभूत सरसफाइमा शतप्रतिशत उपलब्धि, पूर्ण सरसफाइमा सुस्तता)

Nepal has achieved 100% achievements on basic sanitation and 94% achievements for providing access for drinking water services among the people. Nepal has achieved great remarkable achievements in the sector of Sanitation and drinking water across south asia. But, it isn’t a completely satisfactory result. We still have to do  a lot of things to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) within 2030 in this sector. 

In this context; on this special occasion of World Environment Day 2022, Media Help Line Program Unit has invited Mr. Suryaraaj Kandel- Director General, Department of Drinking Water and Sewerage Management (DWSSM) as a guest of this episode. The exclusive interview was done with him. The major objective of this discussion was to know more about the condition of the sewerage management and sanitation in Nepal, to seek the answer of the question; what are the 3 different tyres of governments are doing to ensure access of basic drinking water among the people? What are the roles and responsibilities of the local people, private organizations, community organizations, local, provincial and federal governments and concerned stakeholders to ensure access of quality and safe drinking water to the people of the nation? What are the major challenges to achieve SDGs until 2030 in the water and sanitation’s sector. And, make informed and aware to the general people regarding above mentioned matters through mass media advocacy programs.
